Originally from England, Joan came to Canada in 1984. When she retired, she was able to renew her love of art and take up painting once more. She has been mentored by several very talented local artists and teachers of the Durham region, and has been trained in drawing, water colors, acrylics and oils.  From there on it has been a journey of self-discovery. She has progressed from florals and landscapes to portraits and most recently to abstracts. Joan loves the satisfaction of seeing her portrait paintings come to life. Her medium of choice has been oils, she loves the vibrant colors, the depth and intensity, and the way the paint moves and blends. Joan has been chair of the Oshawa Art Association Juried show for the years 2018 and 2019, and Treasurer for the O.A.A from 2019 to 2022Currently chair of the Pine Ridge Arts Council Juried show. Also a member of Ajax Creative Arts from 2009 until 2019On her recent move to Lindsay, she became a member Kawartha Arts Network. Joan’s paintings hang in private collections in Canada and the U.K.
